La vanadinite était considérée comme un minéral rare.
Découvert par Andrés Manuel del Rio, en 1830, à Zimapán (Mexique).
C'est un minéral très lourd mais fragile.
Il est généralement transparent ou translucide.
Ses cristaux peuvent perdre de leur éclat et de leur transparence s'ils sont exposés à la lumière.
